The Children's Hospice SouthWest and Devon Air Ambulance

Saying the phrase ‘Proud Sponsors of…’ is a bit of a cliché, but in this instance, it couldn’t be truer. Sponsorship is about putting your reputation and name on the line for someone else and we didn’t hesitate to support the Lundy Flyers Beach Race. Not only did we have one of our most fondly remembered weekends, but our sponsorship also helped raise money for two wonderful charities. Now the dust has quite literally settled since the big event, the Lundy Flyers guys kindly invited our directors Phil and Jim to join them in visiting their chosen charities to deliver the donations.

Phil, Jim and Mike Stocks from Lundy Flyers, paid a call to The Children's Hospice South West who provide care and support to families living in the South West who have children with life-limiting conditions. They supply specialist palliative care, respite for the whole family, a sibling service for siblings, emergency support, end of life care and a bereavement service for as long as is needed. For more than 30 years Children's Hospice South West has been caring for children with life-threatening conditions by providing children's hospice and professional family support services. They are dedicated to making the most of short and precious lives through the provision of the best possible hospice care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions. The care offered at each of their three hospices is not just about medical and nursing support for sick children but enriching lives of the children and their whole family.

Our directors and Mike also saw the Devon Air Ambulance representative. Devon is a huge county with two epic coastlines, hundreds of villages, and acres of rural wilderness. But Devon’s geography can make getting the right emergency treatment to patients challenging. Sometimes people in need of urgent medical support cannot be reached by road so easily. At other times it would simply take too long to reach a patient by a land ambulance. When every second counts, getting the specialist skills of Critical Care Doctors and Paramedics to scene is paramount. So, Devon's two emergency helicopters enable expert critical care to reach patients wherever they may be.

We would like to thank both charities again for working so tirelessly around the clock to help people in need, and for welcoming us so warmly during our visits.
